Local or online for weight-loss medicine?
Many high street pharmacies now run private weight management clinics. Online pharmacies deliver to your door. Both must follow the same rules.
- The pharmacy must hold a GPhC premises registration. You can check the number yourself in under a minute.
- Since February 2025, GPhC guidance says a prescriber must verify your weight, height and BMI independently. An online questionnaire alone is not enough.
- Mounjaro, Wegovy, the Wegovy pill and Foundayo are prescription-only medicines. A qualified prescriber decides whether they suit you.
Prefer a delivered service? Start with our directory of 99 GPhC-verified online pharmacies, each with its real Trustpilot score. For today's prices, see Mounjaro prices, Wegovy prices or our delivery guide. Live in Leeds? Read our guide to weight-loss pharmacies in Leeds.
Check a pharmacy before you use one.
Every legitimate pharmacy in the UK appears on a public register. Which register depends on where the pharmacy is.
- England, Scotland and Wales: search the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) register.
- Northern Ireland: search the register held by the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
Match the name and address on the register with the shop sign or website. If they differ, ask why before you hand over a prescription or payment. Our guide to spotting fake weight-loss sites covers the warning signs online.
